I'm running the openbox window manager and using this line in my autostart.sh to control display power management:
xset dpms 0 60 0
This works nicely, causing the display to suspend after 60 seconds of inactivity.
However, when the display…

Display is not capable of DPMS After GNOME Wayland update
Seems like GNOME updated to Wayland which caused a few issues, the biggest is the periodic crash that brings you back to the login screen. Another issue that is hopefully easier to fix is that I can no longer put my display to sleep.
Before the…

Screen doesn't always shut off on its own
It seems like when I have certain web pages focused, my screensaver will kick in, but the screen won't turn itself off. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be? Is there a way to disable whatever is keeping DPMS from kicking in?

How to prevent DPMS from activating when a full-screen window is open?
I am generally quite happy with DPMS screen blanking but for one (rather annoying situation): when playing a game through Wine with a gamepad the screen blanks after a while.

X11 blank vs dpms off
I've been playing around with the dpms/blanking settings on a version of Linux built via yocto.
Something odd I've noticed is that "blank" and "dpms off" both put the monitor to sleep. I had thought blanking would just, well, blank the screen,…

Why does X11 stop putting my screen to sleep after several standby/resume cycles?
For several years (~2012-2020) and over multiple computers (AMD/Intel of various vintages, S3/AMD/Intel graphics), I've observed what appears to be a curious, DDX-independent bug in X11.
