i have ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS and i've been trying to fix this issue since a few days but i still cannot. So,

when i try to connect restart or shutdown a box pops up and says:

Authentication is required for rebooting the system. An application is attempting to perform and action that requires privileges. Authentication is required to perform this action. Details Action: org.freedesktop.login1.reboot Vendor: The systemd Project

When i try to connect to a vpn which used to work before without asking the root password and now:

Authentication is required for rebooting the system. An application is attempting to perform and action that requires priviliges. Authentication is required to perform this action. Details Action: org.freedesktop.NetworkManager-control Vendor: NetworkManager

when i try to disconnect the wired network this is what pops up:

Authentication is required for rebooting the system. An application is attempting to perform and action that requires priviliges. Authentication is required to perform this action. Details Action: org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.network-control Vendor: NetworkManager

I tried googling but i could not find any specific solution for this. I'm not sure if it's related to a polkit rule since i tried to add one like here system policy prevents control of network connections but it did not work.

I can also provide any logs if needed.

Can someone help! Thanks in advance!

  • No one has this issue? I'm not sure what the root cause of this issue is but after a workaround i had to fix it creating polkit rules, one for login1.reboot, one for login1.power-off, one for NetworkManager-control, one for NetworkManager.settings.modify.own. However, this is a quick solution but not the real fix of the issue. I'm not sure what exactly the issue is and i think it was and update. If someone has knowledge on this i'd appreciate your help. – ayuuk ja'ay Sep 09 '20 at 15:44
